2007 Innovations

In March 2007, we delivered our first multi-site program using Apple's iChat technology. The program, Harnessing the Power of Independent Boards, presented by Norb Schwarz of The Family Business Consulting Group, was simultaneously delivered to about 50 members, sponsors, and guests in Green Bay and another 20 members, sponsors, and guests who received the program via live Internet webcasting in Fond du Lac. Both audiences had the opportunity to discuss the key points in small group discussions and to dialogue with Schwarz. This delivery method was very successful and will be used to further extend the Forum's value throughout the region during the 2007 and 2008.

In April 2007, we recorded Becky Kent's live Best Practice session, Terminating Employees without Litigation, for later distribution via podcasting to Forum members and sponsors. This session's delivery was tested by our program committee members following the session and was very well received. We will continue to make sessions easily available to Forum members and sponsors via CD and podcasts through our resource center.

Wisconsin Family Business Forum Program Selection and Past Programs

The Forum's membership committee composed of family business owners and sponsors establishes the year's programs after assessing member interests and needs.  Programs are designed to provide insight into management strategies, tools, and techniques that have proven successful for family businesses.  Although each business is unique due to its blend of business and family characteristics, members identify common themes and issues through the presentations and through talking with one another in peer and small group discussions during each program.

Programs are presented by family business owners, non-family managers, sponsors and nationally/internationally recognized experts.  The intent is to make the theory and case study applicable to specific family business needs while providing adequate time to talk with peers about specific issues and experiences.

The Forum welcomes family business owners who are interested in membership to attend one short program as our guest.  Participating in a program and interacting with the members and sponsors is an excellent way to assess the value of the Forum for your family and business.  If you are interested in becoming a member of the Forum and would like to attend a program as our guest, please contact our director, Sue Schierstedt. Guests pay a minimal fee that is applicable to membership within 60 days of the program.
